Dietitian & nutrition services
Dietitian and Nutritionist
The body cannot function efficiently and effectively without the correct nutrition and diet. Dietitians are the only nutrition professionals to be statutorily regulated, and governed by an ethical code, to ensure that they always work to the highest standard. They are uniquely trained to take the most up to date public health and scientific research on food, health and disease, and translate this into practical guidance.
ProPhysiotherapy welcomes Laura Clark into the ProPhysiotherapy Team.

She is passionate about educating, motivating and inspiring people to lead healthy, balanced lives and has extensive experience in helping people with the challenges faced when changing eating and lifestyle behaviour.

A one to one consultation with Laura, gives you the opportunity to discuss your individual needs and goals. She will ask you about your relevant medical and social history, your lifestyle and typical food choices and eating patterns. Laura firmly believes any changes to your diet and lifestyle have to be achievable, if they are to work for you in the long term.
Each consultation lasts an hour and comprises:
A thorough assessment and scientifically sound nutritional advice tailored to suit you.
Formulation of a realistic action plan for change which you can achieve.
Although a one off consultation might be all you feel you need, in most cases clients find further sessions invaluable. If so, you can then take advantage of a cost effective package of sessions (see below).
Follow up appointments allow for:
Further problem solving to help you overcome any difficulties in incorporating your goals.
Additional support, advice and motivational techniques to keep you on track.
You can discuss your individual requirements with Laura at your first session.

Weight Management
Millions of people across the world are currently ‘dieting’ to shed those extra pounds or kilos, but does it work? Keeping weight off in the long term is very different from following the latest ‘diet.’ Trying to follow something which doesn’t really fit into our life is hard to stick to and weight gain can often happen, when the diet is inevitably ‘broken.’
Our day to day life is made up of many habits. The key to successful weight loss that lasts is changing these habits by developing the right skills and strategies to deal with them.
Managing our weight is a challenge and many factors can play a part in our success. Laura can help you understand all aspects of your weight management and sort the facts from the fiction about what will work. Together, you can look at all the issues involved and come up with a way forward that works for you.
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
If you have been diagnosed with PCOS, you may be aware that eating the right balance of foods and maintaining a healthy weight is key to improving symptoms and reducing the risk of long term health problems. In fact, diet and lifestyle modifications have been advocated as one of the primary treatments to manage the symptoms of PCOS.
Laura can provide you with the latest evidence for diet and PCOS, and give you the opportunity to understand insulin resistance and the valuable role diet can play in controlling your symptoms and improving your wellbeing.
Type 2 Diabetes
You may have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes or had it for some time. Diabetes is a chronic condition, although it cannot be cured, it can be treated very successfully. The ideal aim of treatment is to achieve blood glucose, blood pressure and cholesterol levels as near to normal as possible. This, together with a healthy lifestyle, will help to improve your wellbeing and protect against long-term damage to the eyes, kidneys, nerves, heart and major arteries. What you eat, how much activity you do and what your weight is are therefore central to your treatment for diabetes. Laura can look at all these factors with you and help you to work out a plan to suit you.
Nutrition and Heart Health
Eating a healthy diet can help to protect you against heart disease as diet plays a significant part in helping to reduce the major risk factors for heart disease such as your cholesterol levels, weight or blood pressure.
Laura can provide you with the latest evidence on links between diet and heart health and together you can take a closer look at your usual diet, and consider what changes would help to reduce your risk. It is also the ideal opportunity to consider what changes and additions to your diet could help to protect your heart health in the long term.
Nutrition and preventing disease
There is a huge amount of evidence which places diet at the forefront of disease prevention and good health and wellbeing throughout life. Give your diet an ‘M.O.T’ to ensure you are meeting all your nutritional needs and protecting yourself against future health problems.
Nutrition and Fertility
A healthy balanced diet, which gives your body all its essential nutrients for health and wellbeing, is really important when trying to conceive. Being a healthy body
weight is also important before pregnancy. If you’re underweight, it can be more difficult to conceive and if you’re overweight, you run a greater risk of complications
such as high blood pressure and diabetes during pregnancy.
Keeping healthy is also important for the father to be. A good balance of nutrients within the diet, particularly vitamins and minerals, has a vital role to play in male fertility.
Nutrition and Pregnancy
During pregnancy you need to make sure that your diet is providing you with enough energy and nutrients for the baby to grow and develop, and for your body to deal with the changes taking place. Laura can help you to achieve the right balance for you and your growing baby.
Nutrition and the Menopause
Having a healthy diet and lifestyle and being a healthy weight can make the changes and symptoms the menopause brings more manageable. It is also an ideal opportunity to consider the protection the diet can give you against other diseases such as osteoporosis and heart disease. Laura can look at your current diet and lifestyle and together you can work out a plan that meets your needs and fits alongside any other treatment you may be having.
Nutrition and Sport
Good nutrition plays a vital role in helping you achieve your optimal sporting performance. Laura can help you understand your individual fuel and hydration needs for exercise and how to achieve them for effective exercise and training. She can also help to ensure matches and events go well with a nutrition plan to ensure adequate preparations and recovery from exercise.
